Artistic Statement
I’ve always been an artist, ever since the days of being a child and gazing upon the works of Michelangelo, Da vinci, and glancing intently at Rubens, Rembrandt, and even many impressionist painters were the targets of my rapt focus. I work painstakingly on oil paintings and digital models that are intended to impress the viewer and convey the power of illusion, while oftentimes referencing a concept of interest to me . I originally got into animation by recreating my most important painting (which I’ll discuss shortly) as a CG environment, and over the years I’ve dabbled in Blender, Maya, and Photoshop.
Many years ago around the age of 17 I decided to pursue art, and this thinking has guided me since. I like to harken back to one project of mine which has been a mainstay throughout the years (and which I’m still working on): “The Adoration of the Magi”, architectural drawings, paintings, and 3d models which contain many elements of magic and fantasy. It is painstakingly detailed with oil paint and is notoriously difficult to photograph, but stay tuned because developments are underway! I began the “Adoration” when I was a teenager and started several versions in oil paint and 3d animation over the years. It measures 8 feet by 6 feet and is assembled on several boards fastened together with brackets. I’ve built a couple CG models of the scene and have dreams for its future development. Although I’ve never gained notoriety for this project it doesn't stop me from continuing to market it and build upon it.
My projects take up the bulk of my time everyday, and I fiercely guard my time to ensure this remains true. After I left the Army in February 2023 I almost completely transitioned to digital art, building my resume in photoshop and recreating it in Blender (https://www.skyoptional.com/resume.html) . I’m also currently working on a semester-long project for theNew York Film Academy using computer graphics to build a UFO. I love the time I currently have to explore and live in one of the world's greatest cities (LA) while attending the NY Film Academy.
I have lots of unsold paintings and look forward to living in North Hollywood, getting to know the art community, making new friends, and working toward commercial success. First and foremost, I’m focused on school and portfolio building; I’m fully immersed in modeling and look dev right now, with my eyes set on compositing with NUKE and sculpting with Z brush in the near future. I have a dream of one day building enough interest to fully build “the Adoration” in a 3d format, and turn it into a virtual museum which would function as a promotion venue for artists and an advertising platform. Short of receiving a several million dollar donation or investment, I am content to find work in the CG field via freelancing or a full time job.
